CEO Stephens named co-chair of OSCON

Apr 7, 2011

Bradford Stephens was recently named the co-chair of OSCON Data, a new data infrastructure conference. The conference will be taking place at the same time as the prestigious OSCON. OSCON Data is combining the best of SQL, NoSQL, and distributed worlds.

Webcast with O'Reilly: Decreasing the Pain in Building Distributed Systems

Jan 12, 2011

Drawn to Scale Founder and CEO, Bradford Stephens, will be doing a live Webcast with O'Reilly in preparation for Strata.

"Building distributed systems is painful. Many organizations are approaching the point where their data and application infrastructures are being run on many servers (in the cloud or datacenter). Our software practices don't reflect that, often with disastrous results. This talk is a collection of scalability principles, anecdotes and practices from experts (and personal experience) from engineering, operations, and business perspectives."

Drawn to Scale featured on O'Reilly Radar

Jan 4, 2011

Drawn to Scale was recently featured on O'Reilly Radar, an influential news site.

"Stephens calls [Spire's] speed "user time" and he credits Drawn to Scale's performance to its indexing system working in parallel with backend batch tools. Like other big data tools, Drawn to Scale uses MapReduce and Hadoop for batch processing on the back end. But on the front end, a series of secondary indices on top of the storage layer speed up retrieval. "We find that when you index data in the manner in which you wish to use it, it's basically one single call to the disk to access it," Stephens says. "So it can be extremely fast."
